Yuzhnouralskaya GRES-2 is located in the city Yuzhnouralsk (Chelyabinsk region). On 14 May 2012 JSC «NIAEP», the management company of CJSC «Atomstroyexport» (ASE) started the construction of the nuclear unit №2 for Yuzhnouralskaya GRES-2.
In 2009 CJSC «Atomstroyexport» won the open tender and got the general contract for the construction of nuclear unit №1 of Yuzhnouralskaya GRES-2. On 16 October 2009 CJSC «Atomstroyexport» and JSCo «Third Generation Company of the wholesale electricity market» signed the agreement for the construction of energy complex of Yuzhnouralskaya GRES-2 on the model EPC. According to the technical solution of customer the energy complex of Yuzhnouralskaya GRES-2 is a condensed combined-cycle power plant consisted of three nuclear units with the total capacity of 1200 МВт with additional constructions and communications. The station is built in 5 km from the current site of Yuzhnouralskaya GRES.
On February 2012 CJSC «Atomstroyexport» won the competition for the construction of nuclear units №2 and №3 of Yuzhnouralskaya GRES-2.
